Match Report for 22/11/09 Wakefield FC U8’s 1 Vs Hall Green U8’s Hornets 2 Line up--GK-Louis Ward, DL-Alex Waplington, DR-Courtney Rezvani, ML-Ellis Newman, MC-Spencer Walker, MR-Sam Brown( C ), FWD- Ashley Johnson, Sub’s-H/T Louis with Ellis. After the last outing against Wakefield I decided to put out two roughly even sides. I didn’t see the point of walking the first game and then struggle against the same team in the second. This of course could have resulted in losing both matches but this is the time to tinker. The first half was a well contested match with very few chances both keepers were able to deal with the efforts that got through. 0-0 at the break. Wakefield started better in the second half and we struggled with some well taken corners but the first goal was a solid low shot that went under Ellis. Chances started to creep in for both sides and after some good tackling from Spencer he put Sam through and was able to beat both the last defender and the Keeper. Sam’s second to secure the win came when he was played in, this time by Ashley. Courtney put in a good display in defence and was backed up by both Alex and Louis toward the end of the game when Wakefield looked to salvage a draw when it looked like they were going to win and one point. Again another tight game we were far the better side in the first half, Jack was played in by Xander but was thwarted by the keeper, Then Xander shot wide after being put in by Jess. Jack then put Green in the lead after linking up with another Xander through ball 0-1 at the break. The first half of the second period saw us loose purpose we stopped tracking back leaving the defence exposed but if Liam didn’t tidy up then he was well covered by Jamie who really won us this game with a superb defensive display. Wakefield levelled after some determined work and then took the lead from another well taken corner. It looked like the plan was going to backfire but then came the best team goal of the season so far. Xander made a tackle that he had to win and laid the ball off to Liam who then played it down the line for Max to chase. He beat one player and then crossed the ball for Jack to score his second, Great stuff. With just moments to go we got a throw in which was handled for a free kick. Callum stepped up as it favoured a left footer and as soon as it left his boot I could tell there was only one place it was going and that was the far top corner of the net, A truly superbly taken shot. The final whistle went from the kick off. Honley started well however and took the lead with a well worked move from the kick off, finding the back of the net with only 5 seconds on the clock. Green's heads could have dropped at this point but they refused to let the early set back bother them. some good pressure saw Green create some half chances themselves during the first half but they were unable to convert any into goals. Green defended solidly but a cruel deflection from a corner saw the ball trickle over the Hall Green goal line to give Honley a 2 nil half time lead. Green started the second half with the same battling attitude with which they finished thr first half. Honley continued to apply pressure to the Hall Green goal but some stubborn defending from the whole team and some brilliant saves from the outstanding George Woodward in goals, kept Honley frustrated. The home side did however find the target twice more during the second half with unstopable strikes to see the score finish 4 nil in favour of the usualy free scoring Honley A solid battling performance by Green earned a great deal of praise from the away team coach following the game. Reece Cowan battled well up front despite some heavy challenges whilst George Woodward made some excellent saves however Nationwide Man of the Match went to Ben Roberts with Joel Russell taking the Hardest Working player award.
